Legitimate companies – and there are not many – will never ask you for that, as they derive all their income from the companies they do business with.

One problem you may have is to get an invitation in the first place – most focus groups require very exacting requirements – age, gender, income level, health situation, etc etc, and most folks do not qualify.

One company that i have done focus groups work for in the past is Elliott Benson. You can check their web site, I have not done anything with them for quite a few years now. the last few calls I had from them, I did not qualify, and since then I have had no invitations.

And yes, some groups, like those connected with medical research, require a SSN, they give you a Form 1099, and you have to declare the payment as miscellaneous income on your tax return.

Do not ecpect to make more then 5-6 cents an hour.

You can only obtain legitimate work from home positions from brick and mortar companies.

You want to send your resume out to companies hiring for positions you are qualified for, but include in your resume that you have a home office and you wish to work remotely. Include how you have your home office set up and what equipment you already have in order for you to perform your job.

These jobs are just going to advertised as jobs, they would not promote them as "work at home" because they would hear from too many unqualified people.
